New corrugated board plant at Rondo Frastanz

€16.5 million conversion project completed in record time

Rondo Ganahl AG has expanded its corrugated board production capacity at its headquarters in Frastanz with a €16.5 million investment in a new corrugated board plant. With this move, the packaging specialist is once again setting industry benchmarks while providing stable employment for over 400 people at the site.

At Rondo, continuous investment has always been key to driving innovation and maintaining the company’s technological leadership over the long term. The latest example of this commitment is the new corrugated board plant, which successfully began operations in mid-January 2025 after a meticulously planned and flawlessly executed conversion project – completed in record time. Even during the nearly three-week conversion phase at the turn of the year, ensuring uninterrupted deliveries to customers remained a top priority. Stephan Kaar, Managing Director of the corrugated board plant in Frastanz, explains: “The project timeline was determined years in advance, carefully planned, and coordinated in detail with our employees and customers months before work began. This allowed us to build up stock in advance, reserve pallet space, and coordinate delivery schedules over the holiday period.” More than 33,000 pallets were stored during this time to ensure an uninterrupted supply of packaging materials.

As part of the conversion project, ensuring a reliable supply of raw materials for corrugated board production was also a top priority. In preparation for the installation of the new 135-meter-long, approximately 300-tonne corrugated board plant, the site’s roll storage facility was expanded accordingly. It can now accommodate up to 370 rolls of corrugated case material, each weighing between 2.8 and 3.5 tonnes, allowing for efficient temporary storage and smooth transport to the new plant for processing.

“The trouble-free conversion work and successful commissioning of our new corrugated board plant were only possible thanks to meticulous preparation and the excellent cooperation of everyone involved,” says Kaar, emphasizing the project team’s dedication to their tasks. “At peak times during the work phase, more than 60 people were on-site simultaneously. We would like to thank all employees, customers, and partners for their outstanding commitment.”

Increased capacity through cutting-edge technology

The new corrugated board plant, supplied by Bavarian machinery manufacturer BHS Corrugated Maschinen- und Anlagenbau, has a working width of 2.8 meters and operates at speeds of up to 450 meters per minute. At Rondo’s Frastanz facility, single- and double-wall corrugated board is produced in flute types C, B, D, and E, as well as various combinations, forming the basis for customized, sustainable packaging solutions for customers. A total of €16.5 million was invested in the new corrugated board plant. By installing the new machine, Rondo has increased its production capacity in Frastanz by around 10%, ensuring the company can continue to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly corrugated packaging.
