Triple Award Win for Rondo!
The packaging specialist’s innovations have earned two Wellpappe Austria Awards and one Golden Pixel Award
This fall, the development teams at Rondo Ganahl AG are celebrating three national awards. At the 2024 Wellpappe Austria Awards, Rondo’s “Rosé DAC Product Range Packaging” triumphed in the Point of Sale category, and its “APEX Promotion Box” received a special prize for outstanding print design. In addition, Rondo’s “Protos Integral Helmet Packaging” was honored in the Packaging category at the 2024 Golden Pixel Awards, hosted by the Austrian printing industry.
Wellpappe Austria Awards 2024 for Wine Packaging and Promotion Box
In mid-October 2024, the tenth Wellpappe Austria Awards celebrated the best packaging solutions in the industry. From numerous entries, a jury selected finalists and winners across six categories. Rondo St. Ruprecht’s “Rosé DAC Product Range Packaging” impressed the jury in the Point of Sale category. This wine packaging consists of an outer section and an internal structure with partitions that securely protect and stabilize the bottles. Notably, this packaging concept features a horizontal arrangement of the products and an entirely adhesive-free design.
This year, a special award for outstanding print design was again presented, acknowledging the unique challenges of achieving flawless printing on corrugated board in an era of digitalization and AI advancements. This award went to Rondo Frastanz’s “Apex Promotion Box,” demonstrating that exceptional, high-resolution printing can be achieved on corrugated board using direct flexographic printing. The design features a human face, resembling a painting. This packaging concept also features internal printing, as well as a technical highlight: Using Rondo’s new double rotary die-cutting machine in Frastanz, the die-cutting, internal and external printing are all completed in a single production run.
Golden Pixel Award 2024 for Innovative Helmet Packaging
One week later, the Golden Pixel Awards ceremony gave the Rondo team another reason to celebrate. Out of 176 entries, Rondo’s “Protos Integral Helmet Packaging” emerged as the winner in the Packaging category. This packaging solution features a specially designed auto-lock bottom box, optimized for ergonomic top-loading during assembly. The helmet is secured by means of a sustainable moulded pulp insert. Thanks to a tuck-in tab, the packaging is easy to open and close, eliminating the need for adhesive or tear strips.
This award-winning mono-material packaging solution exemplifies the extensive expertise within the Rondo Group – successfully harnessed across company locations through close collaboration among all employees. The innovative packaging concept was developed by the Rondo team in Frastanz in partnership with the Vorarlberg-based client. The sustainable moulded pulp insert is also manufactured in Frastanz, while the outer packaging is produced at the company’s new digital printing center in St. Ruprecht.
Awards like the Wellpappe Austria Award and the Golden Pixel Award highlight the significance and added value of sustainable packaging materials for industry, retail, and consumers. “Three awards in just over a week are a fantastic recognition of our teams’ dedication,” says Stephan Kaar, Managing Director of Rondo’s corrugated board plant in Frastanz. He adds, “These accolades also motivate us to continue developing customized, innovative, and efficient packaging solutions in collaboration with our customers.”
