Two Wellpappe Austria Awards 2025 for Rondo!
Twice the prestige for the packaging specialist from Frastanz
Each year the Wellpappe Austria Awards honor outstanding industry innovations in seven categories. This year, an independent panel of experts nominated 18 finalists from 41 submissions and selected the winners. At the glittering awards ceremony on 7th November 2025, the development team from Rondo Frastanz had double cause for celebration: the shipping packaging for Biocat was declared this year’s winner in the “Constructive” category, while the Young Talent Award went to Jannis Leiter, a packaging technology apprentice at Rondo, for the game “PucknPack”.
Award for the “perfect tailored suit” made of corrugated board
For the Europe-wide shipping of the limescale protection devices BIOCAT KS 5000-C to KS 8000-C, Rondo, in collaboration with WATERCryst, developed a new mono-material packaging made of corrugated board. The solution impressed the jury of the Wellpappe Austria Awards in the “Constructive” category: dimensionally stable wedges secure the device, while an MC honeycomb panel adapts to three device lengths. The foldable side section enables safe removal of the product while standing; the additional parts are conveniently packed in two boxes.
“We have been relying on Rondo’s sustainable concepts for the packaging of our products and systems for many years,” explains Clemens Leiter, Head of Technology & Production at WATERCryst. “We are delighted to be the recipients of the Wellpappe Austria Award 2025 for the newly developed mono-material packaging of our limescale protection devices.” It is a wonderful testament to the fantastic cooperation we have enjoyed for years, a collaboration that enables us to always find and implement a tailor-made packaging solution for our latest technologies.”
Young Talent Award for Frastanz
A particularly gratifying moment for Stephan Kaar, Managing Director of the Rondo corrugated board plant in Frastanz and spokesman for Forum Wellpappe Austria, was the presentation of the trophy in the “Young Talent” category. As in previous years, the winner in this category was selected by means of an online vote – this year, Rondo’s packaging technology apprentice Jannis Leiter secured the coveted top spot with his “PucknPack” game. A lightweight, sturdy and versatile board game, “PucknPack” successfully combines fun with manual skill and has drawn huge interest across the board at trade fairs or apprentice events.
“Year on year, our corrugated board champions demonstrate how versatile and future-proof our packaging concepts are. “This Wellpappe Austria Award allows us to bring these innovations centre stage,” said Kaar. “The Young Talent Award is particularly important to us, as it shows our apprentices how valuable they are for our company and for the industry as a whole.”
